(The intruiging variety of foods that exist in vegetarianism)

At the mention of the word "vegetarian", many non-vegetarians tend to picture a life of restriction, where they do not get to enjoy all the sumptuous foods they are used to. On this special day, it's high time that myth got busted. Before that, let's get this straight once and for all; who is a vegetarian?

a person who does not eat meat : someone whose diet consists wholly of vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts, and sometimes eggs or dairy products
-Merriam Webster Dictionary

Vegetarianism is a dynamic lifestyle, that allows it's practitioners to have a number of options. Here are five standard types of vegetarians diets:

Lacto-vegetarian diets exclude meat, fish, poultry and eggs, as well as foods that contain them. Dairy products, such as milk, cheese, yogurt and butter, are included.
Ovo-vegetarian diets exclude meat, poultry, seafood and dairy products, but allow eggs.
Lacto-ovo vegetarian diets exclude meat, fish and poultry, but allow dairy products and eggs.
Pescatarian diets exclude meat and poultry, dairy, and eggs, but allow fish.
Vegan diets exclude meat, poultry, fish, eggs and dairy products — and foods that contain these products.

Still think Vegan food is boring?

With many, the aim is to finally become a vegan, hence they start with one less-strict form of vegetarianism, then gradually transition into veganism. The point is, even as a vegan, rest assured that you can still have your colourful, flavorful, and sumptuous meals.

On this special day, VegGhana is here to remind members, and aspiring members that, we are truly what we eat, so let us keep striving to make good food choices, while still having fun with it.

People eat meat and think they will become strong as an ox, forgetting that the ox eats grass. -Pino Caruso (Vegetarian Italian Actor)

In the spirit of celebrating vegetarianism, here are some vegetarian food inspirations you may try, in honor of today.

Also here is one affirmation, for when the journey gets a bit tough:

My body will not be a tomb for other creatures -Leonardo Da Vinci

Once again, VegGhana wishes you a happy World Vegetarian Day 2021. Enjoy your day, with healthy empowering food choices!
